The Battle of Bardia 1941

 The battle of Bardia is the first battle of the three year campaign known as the North Africa Campaign. Lasting three years the north africa campaign was fought from 1941-1943 and would be the crucible of tank provinggrounds, lofistical proving grounds, technical proving grounds.  The beginning World war two had been underway for three years at this point and Italy was desperate for resources and North Africa was rich with resources like Oil, Iron, Fertilizers. The decision to invade North Africa by the Italians was bolstered by Imperial Ambitions and Naval Strategy. Their Goal was to invade North African and move East to capture the Suez Canal cutting off the Allied access between the Red Sea and the Mediterranean disrupting Trade and military efforts.  The north Africa campaign one of the most intriguing theaters of war from World War Two. It was a new concept of battle when it came to Tank and Logistic warfare. Both for the Axis forces and the Allies this proved to be a Logistical nightmare. War In the Mediterranean The war in the Mediterranean was a test of Logistical and Technical superiority as well as being a proving ground for tank warfare. The North Africa Campaign was the first instance of Tank warfare in desert conditions. The Campaign launched on 11 June 1940 and instigated by the Italia Fascists in an attempt to take the supplies of Oil and Seize the Suez Canal taking control of the pass between the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea. The North Africa Campaign is an overarch name for the combat taking place in Africa at the time. Soviet BT series tanks By Sol Mathews In this blog we have covered a few different tanks. We covered the American M4 sherman and the varients alsong with the German Panzer 1. In this post were talking about the work horse of the Soviet Red army armour before and during the early stages of World War Two. The BT was the light tank of the Soviet Red army throughout World War Two. The bt served from 1932-1945. The bt was most notably used in the Russian invasion of Poland and the Winter War between the Soviet union and Finland. The BT series had a production life from 1932 to 1941. The BT series of tanks had five varients. The first varient of the BT Tank was the BT-2. The BT-2 was followed by the BT-5 and the BT-5 was followed by the BT-7 and the BT-7 was followed by the BT-7M. The Finnish even had their own BT tank that was built from captured Soviet BT-7, this BT tank was designed the BT-42.

  Panzer 1 by Sol Mathews Were going to take a break from the allied tanks with this post. This time were taking a look at the German Panzer 1.developed in the 1930's by the Wehrmacht the Panzer 1 was the first iteration of the infamous Panzer series tank. the term Panzer is the shortened version of the German phrase "Panzerkampfwagon". The Panzer 1 is a light "tank", you may see the word Tank in quotes that is because it is classified by the German army as an Armored Fighting vehicle or (AFV).  The Panzer 1 was first designed in 1932 and reached mass production in 1934. It was designed  to be nothing more than a raining vehicle not a combat vehicle. It first saw combat in the Spanish civil war 1936-1939 then would go on to see combat throughout World War Two most notably during the Invasion of Poland, the Soviet Union, and in North Africa.
